As human beings, we are naturally susceptible to temptations. Keeping up with a healthy lifestyle can be difficult when faced with these everyday temptations. Sure pizza on a special Friday night or French toast at a family brunch on Sunday is never discouraged. It’s actually encouraged to indulge here and there to discourage deprivation of the things that make you happy.
That being said, what happens when you have cravings for a basket of hot wings on a Tuesday at 3 pm?
This is when I started to brainstorm a healthy alternative to my junk food snacks. Personally, my favorite food is Chickie’s and Pete’s famous “Crab Fries”. So I looked in my refrigerator and came up with “Crab Cauliflower”. Which sticks to the basic tastes of the Old Bay spice but baking instead of deep frying and using Cauliflower instead of white potatoes. By replacing fries with cauliflower, you’re cutting your calories down to a fraction, lowering your refined carbohydrate intake, and increasing all the vitamins and minerals found in cauliflower including Vitamin C, All B Vitamins, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Potassium, also increasing your Fiber and Protein.
All you need is:
- 2 cups cauliflower florets
- 1/4 cup of old bay seasoning
- 2 teaspoons of olive oil
Pre heat oven to 350. Cut cauliflower into about inch chunks. Toss cauliflower into a bowl of olive oil to dampen, then toss in a bowl with Old Bay seasoning. Spread cauliflower onto a non stick cookie sheet. Bake from 8-10 minutes and ENJOY!
